Description

Suta et al developed a score for predicting postpartum hemorrhage in a woman undergoing cesarean section. This can identify a woman who may benefit from more aggressive management. The authors are from Vajira Hospital and Navamindradhiraj University in Bangkok.

Patient selection: cesarean section

Outcome: postpartum hemorrhage (PPH)

Parameters:

(1) maternal age

(2) race

(3) parity

(4) placenta praevia

(5) acuity of the cesarean section

(6) fetal body size and birthweight in grams

(7) second stage of labor

Interpretation:

• minimum score: -2

• maximum score: 14

• A score >= 3 was associated with postpartum hemorrhage.

Performance:

• The sensitivity was 60% with a specificity of 18% (poor).

• The area under the ROC curve is 0.61.
