Description

Sieira et al reported a score for evaluating a patient with Brugada Syndrome. This can help to identify a patient at increased risk for arrhythmias who may benefit from an implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD). The authors are from UZ Brussel-VUB in Belgium.

Patient selection: Brugada Syndrome

Parameters:

(1) spontaneous type 1 ECG pattern

(2) early (< 35 years of age) familial sudden cardiac death

(3) inducible ventricular arrhythmia during electrophysiological study (EPS)

(4) syncope

(5) sinus node dysfunction (SND, with sinus bradycardia, sinus arrest, PSVT, etc)

(6) aborted sudden cardiac death (SCD)

Interpretation:

minimum score: 0

maximum score: 13

The higher the score the greater the risk for an arrhythmic event.
