Description

Li et al reported a risk score for predicting delirium occurring after major abdominal surgery. This can help to identify a patient at higher risk based on preoperative factors. The authors are from the Characteristic Medical Center of the PLA Rocket Force in Beijing.

Patient selection: major abdominal surgery

Parameters:

(1) age classification

(2) cardiac arrhythmias

(3) serum albumn

(4) coagulopathy

(5) cognitive impairment or mental illness

(6) surgical Apgar score, from 0 to 10 (best)

Interpretation:

• minimum score: 0

• maximum score: 22

• The higher the score the greater the risk of postoperative delirium.
