Description

Leekha et al developed a score for identifying a patient at risk for serious surgical site infection (SSI) after vascular surgery. This is based on preoperative findings and can help to identify a patient who may benefit from more aggressive management. The authors are from the University of Maryland and the Mayo Clinic.

Patient selection: vascular surgery

Outcome: hospitalization or reoperation for surgical site infection (SSI)

Parameters:

(1) critical ischemia

(2) COPD

(3) history of prior revascularization procedure

(4) history of previous surgical site infection
