Description

The prognosis of a patient with an osteosarcoma is often determined by the presence of metastases. Dong et al reported a score for predicting metastatic potential based on expression in specific genes. The authors are from First Hospital of Qin Huangdao and Baotou Medical College in China.

Patient selection: osteosarcoma

Genes:

(1) RAB1

(2) CLEC3B

(3) FCGBP

(4) RNASE3

(5) MDL1

(6) ALOX5AP

(7) VMO1

(8) ALPK3 (higher expression in patients with metastatic osteosarcoma)

= SUM(points for all of the findings)

Interpretation:

• minimum score: -1.126

• maximum score: 0.092

• The higher the score the greater the risk of metastatic disease.
