Description

Jara-Palomares et al reported a model for identifying a patient with a venous thromboembolism (VTE) who may have an occult cancer. This can help to identify a patient who should be screened for cancer. The authors are from multiple institutions in Spain, Canada, and Israel.

(4) anemia (hemoglobin < 13 g/dL for a male and < 12 g/dL for a female)

(5) platelet count per microliter

(6) postoperative status

(7) history of previous venous thromboembolism

Interpretation:

• minimum score: -3

• maximum score: 7
