Description

Grimm et al reported the RODICS (Risk of Dysphagia in Cardiac Surgery) score to predict dysphagia following cardiac surgery. This can help to identify a patient who may benefit from a preventive strategy. The authors are from the Johns Hopkins Hospital.

Patient selection: adult undergoing cardiac surgery

Outcome: dysphagia

Parameters:

(1) sex

(2) body mass index (BMI) in kg per square meter

(3) chronic lung disease

(4) cerebrovascular disease

(5) ventricular assist device placement (VAD) or heart transplant

(6) hypothermic cardiac arrest

(7) duration of postoperative ventilation in hours
