Description

A patient with gonadal dysgenesis may be at increased risk for a malignant tumor


Tumors that may be associated with gonadal dysgenesis:

(1) germ cell neoplasms (dysgerminoma, gonadoblastoma, yolk sac tumor, teratoma, choriocarcinoma)

(2) carcinoma of female pelvic organs (ovary, endometrium, cervix, vulva)

(3) Wilm's tumor

(4) other tumors (synovial sarcoma)

 

The risk varies with:

(1) status of the gonads

(2) presence of female reproductive organs

(3) status of sex chromosomes including mosaicism

(4) other genetic mutations
