Description

Yeo et al reported a score for predicting the risk of 3-month mortality following the use of intravenous tissue plasminogen activator (tPA) in an Asian stroke patient. The authors are from National University Health System Singapore, Chang Gung University and affiliated hospitals in Taiwan.

Patient selection: Asian patient status post stroke, following infusion of tissue plasminogen activator (tPA)

Parameters:

(1) age in years

(2) NIHSS in the ER

(3) blood glucose in mg/dL

total score =

= SUM(points for all 5 parameters)

Interpretation:

• minimum score: 0

• maximum score: 210

value of X =

= (0.05452 * (score)) - 7.218

probability of 3-month mortality =

= 1 / ( 1 + EXP((-1) *X))

Performance:

• The area under the ROC curve is 0.81 in the derivation and 0.79 in the validation cohorts.
