Description

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention provide criteria for the risk associated with an exposure to a patient with 2019 novel coronavirus. The level of risk can help guide how the person is monitored for signs of infection.


Patient selection: exposure to a person infected with 2019 novel coronavirus

 

High risk:

(1) travel to Hubei Province in China

(2) living in the same household as, or being the intimate partner of, a symptomatic person with confirmed infection AND NOT using recommended precautions

(3) providing care in a non-healthcare setting to a symptomatic person with confirmed infection AND NOT using recommended precautions

 

Medium risk:

(1) travel to mainland China outside of Hubei province

(2) living in the same household as, or being the intimate partner of, a symptomatic person with confirmed infection AND using recommended precautions

(3) providing care in a non-healthcare setting to a symptomatic person with confirmed infection AND using recommended precautions

(4) sitting on an airplane within 6 feet from a symptomatic person for a prolonged period

(5) living in the same household as, or being the intimate partner of, a symptomatic person with a suspected infection (not laboratory confirmed)

(6) providing care in a non-healthcare setting to a symptomatic person with a suspected infection (not laboratory confirmed)

 

Low risk:

(1) in the same indoor environment as a symptomatic person with confirmed infection for a prolonged period but not having close contact

(2) sitting on an airplane more than 6 feet from a symptomatic person but within 2 rows for a prolonged period

 

No risk:

(1) walking by or being exposed briefly to a person with symptomatic confirmed infection
