Description

Boland et al listed a number of vulnerable individuals who may be at risk for various forms of abuse. The authors are from Hertfordshire Turst and Creffield Medical Centre in England.


 

Vulnerable persons who may be at increased risk for abuse may include:

(1) elderly adult

(2) cognitive impairment

(3) physically ill

(4) mentally ill

(5) drug or alcohol misuse

(6) physical disability

(7) impaired senses (vision, hearing)

(8) learning disability

(9) someone perceived as weak AND different (based on race, sexual preference, social awkwardness, speech impediment, etc)

(10) poor

(11) uneducated and illiterate

(12) isolated and alone

(13) a prisoner

(14) stigma
