Weigelt et al identified risk factors for surgical wound infection with patients with different types of traumatic injuries. These can help identify patients who may require more aggressive monitoring and treatment. The authors are from the University of Texas at Dallas.

• Blood loss categories: < 1,500 mL, 1,500 - 5,000 per mL, and > 5,000 mL.

• Numbers of organs injured: 1, 2, 3, and >= 4.
