Description

Voulgarelis and Moutsopoulos listed certain findings seen in patients with Sjogren's syndrome who later developed malignant lymphoma. A patient with one or more of these factors should be monitored more closely for signs of lymphoproliferative disease. The authors are from the National University of Athens in Greece.


 

Persistent lymphoid proliferations:

(1) persistent parotid gland enlargement

(2) splenomegaly

(3) lymphadenopathy

 

Mixed monoclonal cryoglobulinemia (Type II Cryoglobulinemia of Brouet et al)

(1) palpable purpura

(2) leg ulcers

(3) IgM rheumatoid factor

(4) low serum levels of C4

 

Monoclonal paraproteinemia with free urinary light chains
