Vlaar et al reported a number of risk factors for transfusion-related acute lung injury (TRALI). The authors are from multiple institutions in Europe and North America.
Risk factors for TRALI:
(1) history of a large number of transfusions
(2) presence of HLA Class II antibody
(3) presence of antibody to HNA (human neutrophil antigen)
(4) presence of anti-granulocyte antibody
(5) presence of antibodies to HLA Class I
(6) receipt of a high volume of plasma from female donors (linked to antibodies to white blood cells)
