Description

Verlut et al identified risk factors affecting overall survival for a patient with glioblastoma multiforme. These can help to identify a patient who may benefit from a more aggressive or alternative management strategy. The authors are from multiple hospitals in France.

Patient selection: glioblastoma treated with chemoradiotherapy

Outcome: overall survival

Parameters:

(1) age in years

(2) MRC neurologic scale (from 0 to 4)

(3) complications following surgery (biopsy or resection)

number of risk factors for a poor outcome =

= SUM(points for the 3 risk factors)

Interpretation:

• minimum number of risk factors: 0

• maximum number of risk factors: 3

• The risk of a poor overall survival increases with the number of risk factors.
