Towne et al identified risk factors aasociated with mortality for a patient with status epilepticus (SE). This can help to identify a patient who may benefit from more aggressive management. The authors are from Medical College of Virginia of Virginia Commonwealth University.
Patient selection: status epilepticus
Risk factors for mortality:
(1) seizure duration >= 1 hour (in the implementation >= 60 minutes used in case the user tries to round up the duration)
(2) older age
(3) anoxia as the etiology for the SE
According to Figure 5 mortality increases from:
(1) 25% for 60 to 69 years
(2) 38% for 70 to 79 years
(3) 64% for >= 80 years
