Description

A patient with myotonic dystrophy is at risk for venous thromboembolism, even compared to patients with other inherited myopathies.

Patient selection: myotonic dystrophy

The standardized rate for VTE in myotonic dystrophy was 7.5 vs the general French population.

Risk factors for venous thromboembolism:

(1) increasing age (HR 1.02 per year), and time since inclusion

(2) personal history of venous thromboembolism (HR 4.6)

(3) obesity (HR 2.7)

(4) high Walton score (HR 1.2)

(5) cardiac conduction disease (HR 4.3)

(6) ambulation loss (HR 7.2)

Pulmonary embolism is a cumulative hazard for patients.
