Description

Santangeli et al reported risk factors for early mortality after catheter ablation of ventricular tachycardia associated with structural heart disease. These can help to identify a patient who may benefit from more aggressive management. The authors are from multiple institutions in the United States, Japan and Italy.

Patient selection: structural heart disease (ischemic cardiomyopathy, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, other)

Outcome: early mortality (death within 31 days of the procedure)

Risk factors for early mortality:

(1) decreased left ventricular ejection fraction (odds ratio 1.12 per percent decrease)

(2) chronic kidney disease (odds ratio 2.7)

(3) presentation with VT storm (odds ratio 3.6)

(4) presence of unmappable VT (odds ratio 5.7)

(5) recurrent VT after the procedure (odds ratio 7.2)
