Qi et al reported risk factors associated with intraoperative shivering by a woman undergoing a cesarean section. The authors are from Shenzhen Maternity & Child Healthcare Hospital and Southern Medical University in China.
Patient selection: cesarean section
Peak incidence occurs after skin disinfection (30%) and post-delivery (26%).
Risk factors for shivering:
(1) anxiety (OR 1.8)
(2) emergency delivery (OR 2.9)
(3) transfer from delivery room to operating room (OR 3.8)
Emergency delivery may encompass several processes for the mother such as hypotension.
The risk of shivering increases with the number of risk factors present.
