Peng et al reported risk factors for late recurrence of nonvalvular atrial fibrillation after radiofrequency catheter ablation. These can help to identify a patient who may need more aggressive management and closer monitoring. The authors are from Qingdao University in China.
Patient selection: nonvalvular atrial fibrillation after radiofrequency catheter ablation
Frequency of recurrence: 23%
Predictors of late recurrence:
(1) persistent atrial fibrillation
(2) left atrial diameter >= 43.5 mm
(3) serum albumin concentration >= 42.2 g/L
Other factors identified on the univariate analysis:
(1) hypertrophic cardiomyopathy
(2) increased plasma D-dimer concentration
