Description

Parmentier-Decrucq et al identified risk factors for adverse events during intrahospital transport of a critically-ill patient. These can help to identify a patient who may require greater care in the peritransport period. The authors are from Universitaire de Lille.

Patient selection: critically-ill patient requiring intrahospital transport

Risk factors for adverse events in general and for adverse events affecting the patient:

(1) ventilation with PEEP > 6 cm H2O

(2) sedation before transport

(3) fluid loading for transport

(4) treatment modification prior to transport

Incidents involving equipment was an important group of adverse events. These might affect the airway or ventilation equipment, a monitor and/or an infusion pump. These need to be in good working order.
