Description

Parmar et al identified risk factors for delayed gastric emptying following pancreaticoduodenectomy (Whipple procedure). This can help to identify a patient who may need to be monitored for this complication. The authors are from the University of Texas at Galveston, University of California San Francisco, Indiana University and Washington University in St Louis.

Patient selection: pancreaticoduodenectomy (Whipple procedure)

Outcome: delayed gastric emptying

Risk factors for delayed gastric emptying in multivariate analysis:

(1) pancreatic fistula

(2) post-operative sepsis

(3) reoperation
