Park et al developed a simple score to help to identify a patient who should have a complete colonoscopy to detect advanced proximal colorectal neoplasm following flexible sigmoidoscopy. This can help to prioritize patients for scheduling. The authors are from the University of Ulsan in Korea.
Patient selection: adult Korean following flexible sigmoidiscopy
Criteria for advanced colorectal neoplasm (ACRN) - one or more of the following:
(1) adenoma >= 10 mm in diameter
(2) villous adenoma
(3) adenoma with high grade dysplasia
(4) invasive cancer
Parameters:
(1) age in years
(2) current smoking
(3) gender
(4) findings on flexible sigmoidoscopy

Interpretation:
• minimum score: 0
• maximum score: 8
• The higher the score the greater the risk of advanced proximal neoplasm.
