Description

Pagano et al identified risk factors for invasive fungal infection (IFI) in patients with chronic lymphoproliferative disorders. The authors are members of SEIFEM (Sorveglianza Epidemiologica Infezioni Fungine nelle Emopatie Maligne) Group in Italy.


Patient selection: CLL, multiple myeloma, non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease

 

Intermediate risk factors:

(1) more aggressive or intensive chemotherapy, including multiple lines of therapy

(2) relapsed, refractory or advanced disease

 

Low risk:

(1) conventional chemotherapy

 

Other risk factors:

(1) immunosuppression

(2) severe and prolonged neutropenia

(3) history of previous invasive fungal infection
