Description

Milot et al identified risk factors for ARDS in patients undergoing cardiac surgery. These can help to identify a patient who may require more aggressive management. The authors are from Hopital Laval in Quebec.

Patient selection: cardiac surgery

Outcome: ARDS, which occurred in 0.4%.

The mortality is 15%.

Risk factors:

(1) history of previous cardiac surgery (odds ratio 31.5)

(2) shock (odds ratio 10.8)

(3) number of transfused blood products (odds ratio 1.6)
