Description

Miften et al evaluated the impact of radiation therapy on a patient with an implanted cardiac device. They identified the risk profile for various conditions. The increase in circuit complexity and ultralow power consumption are the reasons for increased sensitivity to ionizing radiation. The authors are from multiple institutions in the United States.

Patient selection: implanted cardiac pacemaker or cardioverter-defibrillator

Parameters:

(1) radiation dose in Gy to region

(2) delivery of neutrons (present if protons or photons are used with energy > 10 MV)

(3) pacing function (independent, dependent)
