Description

Merayo-Chalico et al evaluated males with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) for erectile dysfunction (ED). There is a high prevalence of ED in this group. The authors are from multiple institutions in Central and South America.

Patient selection: male >= 16 years of age with SLE, with mean age 35 years

Risk factors for erectile dysfunction:

(1) persistent lymphopenia (OR 2.8)

(2) corticosteroid therapy in the previous year (OR 2.2)

Persistent lymphopenia - both of the following:

(1) absolute lymphocyte count < 1,000 per µL

(2) >= 3 consecutive measurements showing lymphopenia (time frame not specified)

An individual patient may have additional risk factors that could contribute to erectile dysfunction.
