Description

Kushel et al identied factors associated with a homeless or marginally housed person suffering sexual assault. The authors are from the University of California San Francisco, Stanford University and Public Health Institute in Berkeley.


 

Patient selection: homeless or marginally housed

 

Risk factors for sexual assault:

(1) female gender

(2) homelessness (if female)

(3) younger age

(4) sex worker

(5) homosexual or bisexual (engaged in same sex behavior)

(6) history of psychiatric hospital stay

(7) fair to poor health

 

The risk of sexual assault increases with the number of risk factors present.
