Description

Kushel et al identied factors associated with a homeless or marginally housed person suffering physical assault. The authors are from the University of California San Francisco, Stanford University and Public Health Institute in Berkeley.


 

Patient selection: homeless or marginally housed

 

The risk for physical assault was unrelated to gender.

 

Risk factors for physical assault:

(1) younger age

(2) white

(3) substance abuse (alcohol and/or drugs)

(4) history of arrest (and illegal activities)

(5) history of psychiatric hospital stay

(6) sex worker

(7) fair to poor health

 

The risk of physical assault increases with the number of risk factors present.
