Patient selection: discharge for an admission for septic shock
Outcome: 90-day readmission with the same pathogen
Readmission rate for recurrent sepsis: 13.3%, with 25% of these (3.3%) due to same pathogen
Risk factors for recurrent sepsis with the same pathogen:
(1) Gram-negative bacteria (OR 9.9)
(2) urinary tract infection (OR 4.3)
(3) same site infection (OR 6.9)
