Description

Kiely et al identified risk factors for a reduced quality of life at 6 months after traumatic injury which can be identified soon after the injury. Early recognition allows for early intervention to reduce morbidity. The authors are from the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee.


 

Measures used for determining quality of life: SF-36, FIM (Functional Independence Measure), CES-D. PTSD Checklist (PCL)

 

Risk factors affecting physical quality of life:

(1) physical impairment at 1 month (low FIM)

(2) female gender

 

Risk factors affecting mental quality of life:

(1) post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)

(2) depression

(3) poor social support
