Khera et al identified a number of risk factors for nonmalignant late effects following hematopoietic cell transplant (HCT). Late effects can result in disability. The authors are from Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle, Washington.
Patient selection: hematopoietic cell transplant
Risk factors for nonmalignant late effects:
(1) age at transplant >= 50 years
(2) female gender
(3) unrelated donor
The hazard ratios are in the range of 1.3 to 1.5 so no single factor is predictive by itself.
