Kermani et al reported risk factors for hypothyroidism in a patient with a systemic vasculitis. The authors are from multiple institutions in the United States and Canada.
Patient selection: systemic vasculitis
Risk factors for hypothyroidism:
(1) older age
(2) female sex
(3) granulomatosis with polyangiitis
(4) microscopic polyangiitis
(5) ANCA-associated vasculitis (AAV) with myeloperoxidase (MPO) antibodies
The risk of hypothyroidism increased with the number of risk factors present.
Limitations:
• Some information was not available - antithyroid antibodies, thyroiditis, inflammation of the pituitary.
