Description

Haager et al reported risk factors for cumulative mortality after percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty (PTCA) performed for acute myocardial infarction. These can help to identify a patient who may benefit from more aggressive management. The authors are from University Hospital RWTH in Aachen.

Patient selection: percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty (PTCA)

Outcome: cumulative mortality (30-day and long-term)

Parameters:

(1) age in years

(2) heart rate prior to PTCA in beats per minute

(3) left bundle branch block (LBBB)

(4) number of ECG leads with ST-segment elevation after PTCA (persistent)

(5) myocardial blush grade (MBG, indicative of poor perfusion)
