Description

A number of risk factors may increase an individual's risk for experiencing motion sickness.


 

Risk factors associated with motion sickness:

(1) age, peaking between 4-10 years of age

(2) female gender

(3) if female, using oral contraceptives, being pregnant or menstruating

(4) recent ingestion of certain foods (dairy products, high salt, high protein, high calorie)

(5) good aerobic conditioning

(6) anxiety

(7) past history of motion sickness

(8) alcohol and certain medications (opiates, other)

(9) pre-exposure nausea or facial flushing

(10) offensive odors
