Description

Fox et al identified a number of risk factors for proliferative sickle retinopathy. These can help to identify a patient who may benefit from more aggressive management to preserve vision. The authors are from the University of West Indies in Kingston, Jamaica.


 

Patient selection: sickle cell hemoglobinopathy

 

General risk factors for proliferative sickle retinopathy:

(1) hemoglobin SC

(2) male gender

(3) older age (starts to appear during adolescence)
