Description

D’Amico et al identified risk factors associated with recurrence following liver transplantation for hepatocellular carcinoma. These can help to identify a patient who may be at a higher risk for recurrence. The authors are from the University of Padua, Mount Sinai Schail of Medicine and the Istituto di Ricovero e Cura a Carattere Scientificio in Padua.

Patient selection: hepatocellular carcinoma without metastases

Outcome: recurrence within 5 years

Parameters:

(1) up to 7 criteria (number of tumors plus diameter of largest tumor in cm)

(2) histologic differentiation (G1 wll, G2 moderate, G3 poorly)

(3) macroscopic vascular invasion (MVI)
