Col et al identified risk factors for noncompliance-related hospital admission for an older adult. The authors are from the University of Massachusetts in Worcester.
Patient selection: elderly patient being admitted to the hospital
Risk factors for hospitalization associated with noncompliance:
(1) poor recall of medication regimen
(2) seeing numerous physicians
(3) female sex
(4) medium income
(5) use of numerous medications
(6) holding the opinion that medications are expensive
A patient with these factors may benefit from interventions to ensure compliance.
