Description

Blitzer et al listed risk factors associated with oral human papillomavirus (HPV) infection. Oral HPV infection increases the risk for an HPV-related squamous cell carcinoma. The authors are from the University of Wisconsin and Radiation Oncology Associates of Manchester, New Hampshire.


 

Risk factors for oral HPV infection:

(1) male gender

(2) early sexual debut

(3) multiple sex partners

(4) open mouth kissing

(5) oral sex

(6) tobacco use

(7) marijuana and/or alcohol use
