Berman et al identified risk factors for readmission of a patient with cirrhosis. These can help to identify a patient who may benefit from more aggressive management. The authors are from Indiana University and the University of Colorado.
Patient selection: advanced liver disease (cirrhosis in text)
Exclusion: readmission for liver transplant
Risk factors for 30-day readmission:
(1) MELD score at discharge
(2) male sex
(3) diabetes mellitus
