Description

Belk et al reported risk factors for a nosocomial infection in a knee arthroscopy patient. These can help to identify a patient to monitor more closely for infection. The authors are from the University of Colorado.

Patient selection: knee arthroscopic patient.

Corticosteroids injected:

(1) triamcinolone

(2) methylprednisolone

Injection period: just before surgery to 6 months after

Risk factor for infection:

(1) any intra-articular corticosteroid injection

(2) preoperative or intraoperative (vs postoperative)

Other factors probably affect outcome, like quality of skin preparation or contamination of injection fluid.
