Description

Annegers et al identified factors associated with recurrent febrile convulsions in children. This can help identify patients who may benefit from a more intensive evaluation. The authors are from the University of Texas at Houston, Tulane University, Columbia Medical School (New York) and the Mayo Clinic.

Parameters:

(1) age of the child during episode

(2) history of febrile convulsions in first degree relatives

(3) complex features

Definitions:

(1) Multiple seizures within a 24 hour period was termed a single seizure with repeated episodes.

(2) Complex features included (a) focal seizure (not generalized); (b) duration > 10 minutes; (c) single seizure with repeated episodes
