Description

Al-Tamimi et al reported risk factors for readmission for a hospitalized patient with heart failure. These can help to identify a patient who may benefit from more aggressive management. The authors are from Gulf Medical University, Sheikh Shakbout Medical City and Dubai Pharmacy College in United Arab Emirates.

Patient selection: adult hospitalized with heart failure

Outcome: readmission (time interval not specified)

Key risk factors for readmission:

(1) non-compliance (OR 3.6)

(2) higher NYHA class (mostly Class IV, OR 2.2)

(3) anemia (hemoglobin OR 0.96)

Compliance and correction of anemia may reduce the risk of readmission.
