Yellow Jackets are a subfamily of social wasp with black and yellow stripes.

Nests are paper covered and may be located on trees or bushes, in holes in the ground, in tree stumps or rock outcroppings.
Stinging by yellow jackets is done by the female, who need little provocation. Females have a black face while the face of males is either white or yellow.
Risk factors for being attacked by a yellow jacket:
(1) late summer and early autumn (August and September) - the "yellow jacket delirium"
(2) high humidity
(3) any movement or vibration near the nest
