Description

A patient with anorexia or bulimia is at increased risk for making suicide attempts or committing suicide. Patients with eating disorders should be monitored for suicidal ideation.


 

Risk factors for suicidal attempts and/or suicide:

(1) drug and/or alcohol abuse

(2) purging behaviors

(3) depression

(4) history of physical and/or sexual abuse

(5) history of suicide attempts

 

A patient with bulimia may be more likely to make a suicide attempt than to commit suicide.
