Description

Staphylococcal scalded skin syndrome (SSSS) rarely occurs in adults. It tends to be seen if one or more risk factors are present. The mortality rate in adults is high, usually because of underlying disease.

The strain of Staphylococcus aureus must be positive for the exfoliative toxin gene.
