Description

Women who have sex with women are a diverse group with a wide spectrum of risk for sexually-transmitted infections.


Sexually-transmitted infections may include:

(1) bacterial vaginosis

(2) Chlamydia

(3) Neisseria gonorrhoeae

(4) HIV

(5) hepatitis A, B or C

(6) syphilis

(7) trichimonas

 

Risk factors for a sexually-transmitted infection include:

(1) intravenous drug abuse

(2) sex with partners who engage in intravenous drug abuse

(3) number of male sex partners

(4) number of female sex partners

(5) being a sex worker

(6) oral-anal contact

(7) poor access to health and mental health care

(8) failure to use barrier protection during high risk activities
