Description

Toxoplasmosis can encyst and become dormant after an acute infection. Certain conditions can result in reactivation with recurrent disease.


Factors that can cause reactivation of toxoplasmosis:

(1) immunodeficiency, including HIV

(2) pregnancy

(3) organ transplantation

(4) immunosuppression, including systemic corticosteroids

(5) trauma

(6) cataract surgery

(7) malignancy

 

Differential diagnosis:

(1) new exposure
