Description

Post-Pancreatectomy Hemorrhage (PPH) can be a serious complication after pancreatic surgery. A number of risk factors can help to identify a patient who may be at increased risk for serious bleeding.


Patient selection: post-pancreatectomy

 

Risk factors for post-pancreatectomy hemorrhage:

(1) older age (specific cut-off not given; will user > 60 years in the implementation)

(2) malnutrition (as indicated by a high Nutritional Risk Index)

(3) pancreatic fistula

(4) pancreatodudodenectomy (Whipple's procedure)

(5) anticoagulation or antithrombotic therapy

(6) intraperitoneal infectious complication

(7) high serum total bilirubin

(8) arterial injury including pseudoaneurysm
