A number of risk factors are associated with development of chronic subdural hematoma.
Risk factors for chronic subdural hematoma:
(1) alcoholism
(2) seizure disorder
(3) anticoagulation
(4) coagulopathy
(5) cerebrospinal fluid shunt
(6) head trauma
A symptomatic patient (dementia, hemiparesis, aphasia, other symptoms) with one or more of these findings should be evaluated for a possible subdural hematoma.
